Widely considered one of the most influential goalie coaches in North America, Joe Bertagna
celebrates 38 years of coaching in 2011. Joe began directing summer goalie schools in 1974 and
continues this summer at seven different rinks. He is also active in-season with small-group instruction,
holiday clinics, and providing services for various youth programs in New England.
His writings and DVDs have helped thousands of goalies and their families. The Boston Bruins’
goalie coach for seven seasons, Joe also served in that capacity with Team USA in the 1991 Canada
Cup and 1994 Olympic Games in Norway.
The first head coach of Harvard University’s women’s ice hockey program, Joe is also involved with hockey clinics aimed at adult women players. His spring clinic for adult women takes place at The Edge in Bedford for ten Monday nights beginning April 18. Joe has served amateur hockey in a number of roles, most notably in his regular jobs as the Commissioner of the Hockey East men’s and women’s Division I college hockey conferences and as the Executive Director of the American Hockey Coaches Association. Joe represents college hockey on USA Hockey’s Board of Directors. With so many choices .... why Joe?
